There is also a deeply personal story behind the artistic style of this poster. The elegant lady featured prominently in the foreground was modeled after Marie Leblon, the artist’s great love and muse. Many other posters from that era used anonymous, idealized models in their advertising, but Rochegrosse portrayed his own wife on a poster for the world’s largest automotive spectacle.
