From an early age, Bradley Schmehl has painted and drawn everyday subjects. He strives to be a naturalistic painter with a realistic style and an unparalleled eye for detail. Schmehl’s work always leans toward faithful depictions of the subjects he explores by consulting diaries, letters, and books, and by visiting historic sites. His interests range from weapons and machinery, historic architecture, figures, and animals to nature. Schmehl never portrays his figures as “stock characters,” but instead seeks to capture the essence of the individual, along with a broad spectrum of human emotions. He aims to draw viewers into his work through dramatic composition, lighting, and naturalistic tones and colors.
