Sir Malcom’s Bleubird, Daytona

On 3 September 1935, Sir Malcolm Campbell set up a new Land Speed Record of 301.13 mph in the 36.5-litre 12-cylinder Rolls Royce-engined car Bluebird on the salt lake at Bonneville in Utah, U.S.A.  Sir Malcolm Campbell was the first man to exceed 300mph on land.

The chassis was a modified version of an earlier Bluebird, the single engine was supercharged, there were twin rear wheels, and, for the first time, air brakes were used.
