Angel of Victory
ca 1914
L. Osborne is the artist of the Angel of Victory. Little is known about the artist and we are left to our own devices to understand the artwork. Perhaps the artist had no other intention than portraying an angel with a prominent green laurel wreath in her hand. Laurel wreaths are often a symbol of triumph, victory, and glory. Angels are a common theme in automobile promotion. As Osborne has given us little more information in the lithography we can only really guess as to his meaning. The hair of the angel and her positioning suggest she is being propelled by a considerable force of nature. The number 14 is visible under the artists signature, this could allude to the date of the artwork or the edition.
