Bayard
Lucien -Henri Weil (Weiluc) was a French painter and regular exhibitor at the Salon des Humoristes. In 1911 he became President of the Society of Humoristes. He was well known for his contributions to the naughty, humoristic magazine “Le Frou Frou”. launched in 1900. The aim of the magazine was to titillate, and Weiluc was commissioned to create soft erotic images. He was however, well regarded for his far less daring portraits of Parisian characters and other commercial assignments. Weiluc quite frequently took a humorous approach to posters for clients; here, he makes the Bayard automobile fly through the air with the greatest of ease, narrowly escaping an oncoming train. Clément - Bayard (also known as Bayard - Clément) was a French manufacturer of bicycles, automobiles, aeroplanes and airships founded in 1903 by entrepreneur Gustave Adolphe Clément in the town of Mézières. The name and logo of his company and automobile was inspired by a legendary knight, Chevalier Pierre Terrail, seigneur de Bayard who saved the city of Mézières in 1521. In 1922 the company was broken up and partially taken over by Citroën. Printing House Société Nouvelle d’Art Décoration, 104 Bd de Clichy, Paris
