Charlie Dodson (1901-1983)-karikatuur
Charlie Dodson started out as a motorcycle racer. His career in motor racing got off to a strong start with a second place in the Mannin Beg race in 1934 on the Isle of Man, driving John Cobbs 2.3 liter Alfa Romeo Monza. He won the Ulster TT in 1934 in an MG Magnette and two years later took first place again, this time in a Riley, together with Freddie Dixon. In 1935 and 1937 he took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a 700cc Austin. Dodson is shown here in his small Austin, battling with a larger rival. This series of caricatures was created by Frederick Gordon Crosby in 1935. The drivers depicted were famous at the time among British motor racing enthusiasts, especially for their performances on the Brooklands banked circuit and at major events on the continent.
