Elsie 'Bill' Wisdom (1904-1972) caricature

Elsie ‘Bill’ Wisdom (1904-1972)-karikatuur

Elsie grew up in a family with six brothers, who gave her the nickname "Bill." She started racing after her husband, without consulting her, entered her for the Ladies March Handicap race at the Brooklands circuit, which she promptly won! Here she is depicted by Gordon-Crosby in the huge 7.2 liter Leyland-Thomas, in which she set a new lap record at Brooklands of 121 mph (195 km/h). This series of caricatures was created by Frederick Gordon Crosby in 1935. The drivers shown were famous at the time among British motorsport enthusiasts, especially for their performances on the Brooklands banked track and at major events on the continent.
