Essolube
Lithograph on paper Jean Walther was an international illustrator, graphic designer and draftsman, but the scale of his oeuvre has only recently become known with the discovery of a huge archive of his work in his hometown of Morges, Switzerland. Walther worked for Alliance Graphique and together with A.M. Cassandre in Paris. He was employed by the Royal Dutch Steamship Company in the Netherlands, and he designed this distinctive cubist mascot for the Esso Oil Company in America. This iconic image has a clear message, even without the accompanying text: Esso Oil works wonders for your car during the freezing cold winter.
