Hevea Cord
ca 1920
The Verenigde Nederlandsche Rubberfabrieken (United Dutch Rubber Factories) Hevea NV was a rubber factory founded in 1904 in Renkum, the Netherlands by Dirk Frans Wilhelmi. Hevea produced rubber pneumatic tyres for bicycles, motorcycles and automobiles as well as solid rubber tyres. Hevea’s most popular tyres were: Hevea-Special-Koord, Hevea-Supra, Vrid, Hevea-Populair, Hevea-Riga and Hevea-Auto-Populair. Hevea had its own factory village, called Heveadorp (Hevea village) and its own company magazine called the “Hevea-Bode” / “Hevea Heraut”. The name Hevea came from the Brazilian rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis and former employees of the company called themselves Heveans. The poster by W. Nanning depicts the extensive United Dutch Rubber Factories themselves under their product, a rubber tyre. The tyre almost assumes mythic proportions in the poster, something we are all in awe of and even worship. W, Nanning made numerous posters for Hevea. Lithographer J Beerta, Groningen
