IVme Course Internationale du Klausen 1925
Lithograph on paper Karel Bicker was a Swiss engraver, sculptor, painter and graphic designer. He learned lithography and stereotype design at the renowned drawing studio of Paul Bleuer in Zurich and studied at the Zurich University of the Arts. In 1908 he opened his own studio for graphic works in Zurich. Together with other graphic designers he created posters with a focus on fashion catalogues and posters for cultural events. From 1923 onward, after an artistic stay in Italy, he worked as an engraver for the Swiss postal service. His work reveals a tension between monumentality and microscopic precision. The International Klausenpass race in Switzerland was held a total of ten times between 1922 and 1934. The 21.5 kilometer course was then the best known and most demanding mountain race in Europe and ran from the village of Linthal (Canton Glarus) to the Klausen Pass (Canton Uri).
