Etching on paper Louis Justin Laurent Icart was a prolific French painter, graphic artist and illustrator. His inspiration came mainly from the French masters of the eighteenth century. Here we should think of, among others, Jean-Honore Fragonard, Edgar Degas and Claude Monet. In his work he studied life in Paris and New York in the nineteen twenties and thirties. He also had a keen eye for feminine beauty. He is regarded as one of the most prominent Art Deco artists of France. This copper engraving is known in art and collectors circles as "The Gatsby". The elegant lady and her automobile remind people of Daisy in F. Scott Fitzgeralds literary masterpiece The Great Gatsby. It describes the affluent life, during 1922, of the rich in Long Island and New York. Copyright 1929 by L. Icart – Paris. Number 4.
