Ducellier Headlights

Phares Ducellier

Lithograph on paper Philippe Chapellier was a French impressionist, modern artist, caricaturist and illustrator. He was known for his advertising posters for department stores, automobiles and (motor)bikes. His focus was often on feminine beauty. In 1900 he opened his own lithographic studio. Ducellier (founded in 1830) was and still is (now known as Valeo) a well known manufacturer of electrical components for the automotive industry. In this poster Chapellier promotes Ducelliers acetylene headlights (phares). We see an unsuspecting couple during an intimate evening in the countryside, who are roughly interrupted by the bright headlights of a hurried motorist. Everyone is startled, even the ducks, and the driver is furious. Artistic Posters P.
