Lithograph on paper Georges-Antoine Rochegrosse began his training as a painter with Alfred Dehodencq. He then studied in 1871 at the Academie Julian in Paris under Jules Joseph Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger and completed his studies at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. At the beginning of his career he practiced history painting, symbolism and later orientalism.
