Sunday Afternoon Ride on a Tricycle

Sunday Afternoon Ride on a Tricycle

Emmanuel ‘Manuel’ Robbe was a French painter and printmaker, notable for his aquatint and á la poupée intaglio printmaking technique in etching. He was a graduate of the Académie Julian and of Beaux-Arts de Paris. Robbe exhibited at the Société des Artistes Français and at the 1900 Paris Exposition. Robbe wanted to capture the life of the people of his time, and here we see a couple on a Sunday afternoon going for a ride on a tricycle. The wintery landscape and water in the background create a quiet place where the couple can be alone. The artist is merely a voyeur of this intimate scene. Edition 43 of 60
