The Train Station

The Train Station

ca 1930

Eric

The Train Station by an artist named Eric sets the scene for a “rendez-vous” between possible intimates, as well as a train and an automobile. The 1930s Hupmobile Eight (Series 222) 5 passenger Sedan automobile dominates the foreground, and then the eye is drawn to the train and finally to the gentleman tipping his hat to a lady in red. Note the subtle link between the red inner rim of the wheels and the red hat and coat worn by the lady. This ensures that the viewer does not miss the “rendez-vous” in the backdrop. “Hupmobile, The Car of the Careful Investor”, founded by Robert C. Hupp (a former employee of Oldsmobile and Ford), was an American automobile brand from 1909 to 1941. Hupp, however, left the company merely two years after its founding due to disagreements with his financial partners. The Hupp Motor Corporation continued on without him and became a success moving from Detroit, Michigan to Cleveland for greater production capacity. Unfortunately the company started to diversify into too many different models, a mistake many car manufacturers at the time made, in an attempt to attract buyers and this led to the company’s demise.
