Voisin Automobiles

Lithograph on paper Charles Loupot was one of Frances most prominent poster designers and a (private) painter. He experimented with typography, aerography (a precursor of the airbrush) and mainly with lithographic art. From 1911–1913 Loupot studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and after serving in the First World War he returned in 1917 to his childhood surroundings in Lausanne. There he shifted his focus from painting to poster art. In 1923 he travelled back to his native country France, where he created designs for the printing house Devambez. Loupots first impressive work (the first of many) in Paris was for the car brand Voisin. Paul Cezanne was clearly a source of inspiration for his work and he often added elements of Fauvism and Cubism to his posters. The elegant car in this dreamlike world is not depicted perfectly; Loupot deliberately chooses to evoke the myth of the automobile as it breaks through the clouds. Printing house Devambez, Paris
