Not just a typical American yellow cab, but a genuine movie star. In 1972 this DeSoto taxi appears in Francis Ford Coppolas masterpiece The Godfather. Five years later the taxi does it again in the film Thieves, in which Professor Irwin Corey plays the role of taxi driver. The yellow and red color scheme is from the city of San Francisco. This DeSoto is equipped with the Fluid Drive system, a fluid coupling that ensures the gear shifts of the transmission are smoothed out. The DeSoto car brand is named after the Spaniard Hernando de Soto, who discovered the Mississippi River. In 1929 the brand is launched by the Chrysler Corporation. Thanks in part to a huge marketing campaign, DeSoto becomes a great success; in the first year of production alone, 80,000 units are sold. In the 1950s sales decline and in 1960 DeSoto disappears from the market. There was also, just like Chrysler, an Airflow version of the DeSoto.
