Ford Anglia Sportsman
However English the Ford Anglia and its model designation may be, the styling is very American: just look at the sloping nose line, the wide chrome grille and the small fins.
However English the Ford Anglia Sportsman and its type designation may be, its styling is very American: look at the sloping nose line, the wide chrome grille, the chrome "eyelashes" above the headlights and the small fins. At the time, the Anglia was also available in a two tone color scheme. A variant that Ford UK built exclusively for the European market was the Anglia 105E Sportsman. It was characterized by the spare wheel mounted on the rear bumper, the so called "Continental Kit". The most striking feature, however, is the rearward slanting rear window, derived from the 1959 Lincoln Continental, something that would later also appear on the Citroen Ami. The advertisement claims that the purpose of this is to keep the window clean when it rains. It has become a well known styling feature of this type of Anglia, the fourth and final generation, which was produced from 1959 to 1967. The Ford Anglia was succeeded by the Ford Escort. A Ford Anglia of this type also plays a role in the 2002 film "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets".
