Marmon Little 8 Collapsible Coupe Roadster

Marmon Little 8 Collapsible Coupe Roadster

'Its a fine car made small' (its a delightful car that we have made smaller), is how Marmon advertised its 'Little' 8 in the 1920s.

'Its a fine car made small' (it is a delightful car that we have made smaller), this is how Marmon advertises its Marmon 'Little' 8 in the 1920s. It is Marmons answer to the growing demand in that period for cars in the mid range segment. The 'Little Marmon' may have a smaller size, but it still has an eight cylinder engine with 64 hp under the hood. In 1927 the Marmon Little 8 costs just under 2,000 dollars, while the price of a Model T Ford is then around 400 dollars. It is remarkable that the Marmon Little 8 from the museum was delivered in the Netherlands, via dealer Dirk van der Mark from Amsterdam. It is a 'collapsible coupe roadster', a fine name for a two seater convertible. From the founding of his company in 1902, Howard Marmon has been building technically advanced and high quality automobiles. He focuses mainly on the upper segment of the market. When new management decides in 1924 to launch this smaller car, Howard Marmon has great difficulty with it. He sees it as a departure from his high standard. Worth mentioning is that in 1911 a special Marmon, the 'Wasp', wins the first 500 miles of Indianapolis.
