Toyota 2000gt

The Toyota 2000GT can rightfully be called the first Japanese supercar. See the Toyota 2000GT at the Louwman Museum in The Hague.

With good reason, the Toyota 2000GT can be called the first Japanese supercar. It is equipped with a 150 hp two liter six cylinder engine, good for a top speed of over 200 km/h. In addition, the 2000GT has independent suspension with disc brakes all around and a synchronized five speed gearbox. There are four headlights: two behind plexiglass and two pop up units. The latter are intended for the American market, where higher mounted headlights are mandatory. The Toyota 2000GT was designed by Satoru Nozaki. The engine is based on the six cylinder from the Toyota Crown, fitted with double overhead camshafts. In racing tune the engine produces 200 hp. A modified 2000GT breaks various speed and endurance records. A convertible never existed, but for the James Bond film 'You Only Live Twice' a unique open version was built. In total, 351 Toyota 2000GTs were produced, making it one of the most desirable supercars of the 1960s.
