Voisin C23 Myra Saloon
The rods that attach the front fenders of this Voisin C23 to the radiator point to the marque's aviation past, as its full name is in fact 'Avions Voisin'.
The rods with which the front fenders of this Voisin C23 are attached to the radiator point to the marque's aviation past, which is why its full name is Avions Voisin. This too is a strongly functionalist car, drawn in a straightforward, no nonsense way. Yet Gabriel Voisin is beginning to pick up influences from the rapidly emerging Art Deco movement after 1925, something that can be seen in the distinctive interior upholstery of this Voisin C23. In particular, Voisin's cars from the 1930s have become true Art Deco style icons. It is Voisin's habit to give names to both his chassis and his bodies, often rather unorthodox ones. The chassis of this car is called Meltem and the body is named Myra. The first Voisin dates from 1919 and is actually a Citroen design that never went into production. In 1921 Voisin presents a 7.2 liter twelve cylinder, but also a 1.2 liter four cylinder. The C23 type with three liter six cylinder is new for 1931. All Voisin engines are Knight sleeve valve engines built under license, from which he manages to extract a great deal of power.
