Pegasus
The ultimate boys dream
In 1953, the sensational Pegaso Z-102 from the Spanish company ENASA made visitors to the World Motor Sports Show in New York mouth water. Not only because of its futuristic design, but also thanks to its striking color scheme of yellow with a green interior and red sidewalls on the tires, this ultimate showcar attracts everyones attention.

A futuristic design
The lines of this Pegaso were inspired by the then prevailing hype around UFOs and flying saucers. The bodywork virtually encloses the chassis. There are no bumpers; instead, rosettes with impact rubbers are fitted. The most distinctive design feature, however, is the dome-shaped rear window, hence the type designation Cupula.

El Dominicano
The Pegaso was bought during the show by Generalissimo Rafael Trujillo, dictator of the Dominican Republic, and then disappeared for a long time into obscurity, during which it lost its roof, was repainted, and was thoroughly neglected. Since Trujillos ownership, this Pegaso has had the nickname El Dominicano.

An intensive restoration
In 2006 the Cupelo came into the possession of the Louwman Museum, having previously been part of the Rosso Bianco Collection in Aschaffenburg. Although the car had by then regained the distinctive dome from which it takes its name, it was otherwise in deplorable condition, says Evert Louwman. This was followed by an intensive restoration, which would last until 2015.

"Only one Cupula was ever made, and before the restoration we had little more than a few black-and-white photos to base ourselves on."

The Best of Show
The car is finished just in time for the Villa dEste concours in Italy, where the Pegaso wins, among other things, the jury prize for best design. In 2016 the Pegaso takes part in the Amelia Island Concours dElegance. At this prestigious event, Pegaso is chosen by the international jury as Best of Show.
