January 27, 2014

Classic cars adorn the new stamp sheet Classics from the Louwman Museum. Each of the ten stamps features an image of a historic car from the museum collection

Cornelie Petter Godin de Beaufort, sister of Carel Godin de Beaufort who was killed in one of the last gentlemen races, received the first sheet of stamps. This was presented by Barry Husman, Director Consumer & Small Business at PostNL, in the presence of the director of the Louwman Museum, Ronald Kooyman. One of the stamps shows the type of Porsche her brother drove. The sheet of stamps was designed by graphic designer Hans Bastiaan Busking, who had previously designed the museum catalog.

The first stamp at the top left of the sheet shows the oldest car from 1887, and at the bottom right is the newest one from 1965. Each stamp shows the make and the year in which the car went into production. Further model designations and any other special details of the car are printed in the sheet margin.
