Legendary F1 Arrows A8 with 1,200 hp.

August 17, 2022

From 23 August to 4 September, Thierry Boutsen's legendary F1 Arrows A8 will be on the grid at F1 Legends. With 1,200 hp and a weight of 550 kilos, this car comes from the most extreme F1 era ever. For comparison: Max's Red Bull weighs almost 800 kilos and has "only" 740 hp at the rear. The Arrows F1 had so much power per kilo that Boutsen still had wheelspin even after the first corner going uphill towards the Casino in Monaco!

The Arrows A8 was driven in the 1985 season by the Belgian driver Thierry Boutsen. Together with Gerhard Berger he contested 16 races that season and finished 11th in the final standings. Both drivers also lined up at the start in Zandvoort. His best result that year came in San Marino. With only a few laps to go, Ayrton Senna, who was leading, ran out of fuel. Alain Prost was the first to cross the finish line, but was disqualified because his car turned out to be underweight. Elio de Angelis was then declared the winner. Boutsen also ran out of fuel just before the finish, but he managed to push his car over the line, earning a magnificent second place.

The Arrows A8 has been made available by Parabolica. This company, founded by F1 engine engineer Ernest Knoors and F1 marketer Roel Schoondermark, has the mission of preserving iconic Formula 1 cars for future generations. Ernest and Roel are coming to the museum especially to give talks and tell you more about the technology of this remarkable car in particular, and about Formula 1 in the period around 1985.
