Step into the history of James Bond
October 4, 2021
No Time to Die, the new James Bond movie, can finally be seen in cinemas. Starring a replica of the Aston Martin DB5 with which Sean Connery made his name in the film Goldfinger.
But of course nothing beats the original, in which Sean Connery, as secret agent James Bond, carried out his missions. For its time, this DB5 had the ultimate technical gadgets, such as Browning machine guns hidden behind the front indicators, hydraulically extendable bumpers to use as a battering ram, a rotating number plate with British, Swiss and French registrations, a smoke generator to lay down a smoke screen, an extendable bulletproof shield to cover the rear window, possibly the very first navigation/radar system to track cars and, of course, the ejector seat to get rid of unwanted passengers. Features that, in the film, were dreamed up by the eccentric engineer 'Q'. After Goldfinger, the DB5 continued to appear in James Bond films: Thunderball (1965), Goldeneye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Casino Royale (2006), Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015). But never did the DB5 come as close as it does in this latest James Bond film!

Close to the original from 1964

Film enthusiast Frank Buma recently visited the Louwman Museum to admire our DB5 up close. He created an interesting article with a video report about it.
