WELCOME TO A WORLD WHERE MOBILITY, ART AND DESIGN NEVER STAND STILL.
The Louwman Museum, housed in a purpose-built building by the renowned American architect Michael Graves, is not just a collection of cars. The museum tells the story of motoring.
The collection, dating back to 1934, was created by passionate people knowing every aspect of the automobile phenomenon. Be it the majestic luxury cars of the 1930s, the horseless carriages of the late nineteenth century, the tough-looking Grand Prix and Formula 1 racers or the first attempts at affordable family cars.
Some cars in the Louwman Museum are one-offs, some are limited editions, some are mass-produced. The era, the coachwork design, the technology and the origin of the car are the main criteria. Their design and technology also reflect the cultures that created them.
The museum shows sports and racing cars driven by legendary names at Grands Prix, at Le Mans and at Indianapolis as well as vehicles owned by celebrities. Today, the collection comprises more than 275 antique and classic automobiles.
A special dimension to the museum is given by the beautifully displayed, extensive collection of automotive art and automobilia: posters, paintings, stained glass, porcelain, trophies, toys, including original pieces by great illustrators and sculptors.
