Amilcar
Paolo Frederico Garretto was an Italian political cartoonist, painter, designer and graphic artist who spent his life between Paris, London, New York and Italy. He gave graphics and drawing a completely new and revolutionary impulse which he drew from Futurism. Garretto had a strong connection to fashion visible in his collaborations with “Vogue” and “Vanity Fair”. He also founded and directed the magazines “Rivista” and “Per voi signore”. Amilcar produced automobiles from 1921 to 1939 based in Saint Denis in France. The name is an imperfect anagram of the surnames of the founders, Joseph Lamy and Émile Akar. The fashionable couple in the poster seem to be waiting for a taxi to pick them up. At the same time they are longingly studying the poster of Amilcar, an automobile that promises to be comfortable, fast and economical. Lithographer “Succès” 7, Imp.se Marie Blanche, Paris. H.
