Exhibition of Modern Means of Transport Berlin 1909

Ausftellung Moderner Verkehrsmittel Berlin 1909

Lithograph on paper Julius Klinger was an Austrian painter, draftsman, illustrator, commercial graphic artist, typographer and writer. He studied at the Technologisches Gewerbemuseum in Vienna, and went on to transform the visual culture of commerce with his innovative designs. Klingers art belongs to the Vienna Secession and Jugendstil, and he became known in Germany as a poster artist. His style was recognizable for its graphic simplicity and directness. Klinger was a supporter of Americanismus and recognized the importance of modern trademarks and logos. This is a promotional poster for the Modern Transport Exhibition in Berlin in 1909. The use of a few strong colors, which can be traced back to the German flag, and the graphic simplicity of a steering wheel together convey a clear message to the public. An illiterate viewer was thus also able to grasp the message of the poster. Printer Charles Verneau, 114 Rue Oberkampf, Paris Hollerbaum & Schmidt, Berlin N.65 Fiscal stamp (tax stamp) for collecting taxes or levies on advertising in Germany.
