Coupes de Paris 1939

Lithograph on paper Geo Ham (Georges Hamel) was a French painter and illustrator. In 1918 he studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs and in 1931 Ham was appointed Official Peintre de l'Air. Ham's illustrations of automobiles, motorcycles, airplanes and boats are famous for their clean simple lines and his eye for detail. His works were shown in L'Illustration (the first international illustrated magazine in France). The Grand Prix Automobile de Paris or Coupe de Paris was one of the most prestigious car racing events in France. The first race was in 1939 and was held at the Autodrome de Linas - Montlhery in Essonne and in the Bois de Boulogne near Paris. From 1939 to 1949 the race was part of the Grand Prix season. Ham's use of a dominant blue color and clean simple lines catches the eye and sparks our racing imagination and the idea of speed. Printer Ste Ame Courbet, Paris
