RAI Tentoonstelling 1922
Lithograph on paper The RAI Association, in full 'De Nederlandsche Vereniging de Rijwiel en Automobiel Industrie', was founded on 17 December 1893 by bicycle manufacturers. What was then called RI, 'De Rijwiel Industrie' (the Bicycle Industry), soon became known in 1900 as the RAI, 'De Rijwiel en Automobiel Industrie' (the Bicycle and Automobile Industry). The RAI exhibition was a central, annual, national event to promote bicycles and automobiles. The 1922 RAI exhibition, depicted on this poster by an unknown artist, was held in the RAI's own new building on Ferdinand Bolstraat in Amsterdam. The building, visible in the background, was constructed in 1922 as a temporary accommodation for five years but ultimately housed the RAI for almost forty years. In popular speech the building is known as the 'Oude RAI' (Old RAI). Lithographer M.A. Jacobson, Haarlem
