Lithograph on paper The RAI Association, in full 'De Nederlandsche Vereniging de Rijwiel en Automobiel Industrie', was founded on 17 December 1893 by bicycle manufacturers. What was then called RI, 'De Rijwiel Industrie' (The Bicycle Industry), soon became known as the RAI in 1900, 'De Rijwiel en Automobiel Industrie' (The Bicycle and Automobile Industry). The RAI exhibition was a central, annual, national event to promote bicycles and automobiles. The first Bicycle Exhibition ('RI') was held in 1895 in the Paleis voor Volksvlijt in Amsterdam, an exhibition space on Frederiksplein. Cornelis Outshoorn, the architect of the Palace, was inspired by the Crystal Palace in London. Lithographer V/h Amand, Amsterdam
