
Sir Malcom Campbell's Bleubird, Daytona
On 3 September 1935 Sir Malcolm Campbell set a new speed record of 301.13 mph in the 36.5 liter 12 cylinder Rolls Royce car Bluebird on the salt flats at Bonneville (Utah, USA). Sir Malcolm Campbell was the first man to break the 300 mph barrier. The chassis was a modified version of an earlier Bluebird, the engine was fitted with a supercharger, there were twin rear wheels and, for the first time, parachutes were used for braking.
