Turcat-Mery

Turcat-Méry

Lithograph on paper This poster by an unknown artist paints a perfect picture of a summer drive along the coast on a sunny day. With Marseille and the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde in the background, we see a motorcar effortlessly speeding up the hill with its three passengers. Turcat-Mery was a French engine manufacturer from 1899 to 1928, founded by Alphonse Mery, Simon Mery and Leon Turcat. They were praised for winning the first Monte Carlo Rally, known for Grand Prix racing and for making the Voiture of the Connoisseur. High speed was in their DNA and Marseille was their home base. Hence the references in this poster. Note also the product placement for Dunlop tires. Printer J. Guilhot, 15 Rue Bonne-Nouvelle, Paris
