Alfa Romeo Alfa Romeo - Tipo 33/2 Daytona Coupe

Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 Daytona Coupé

The Tipo 33 is a legendary Alfa Romeo racing car, developed by engineer Carlo Chiti, who came from Ferrari.

In the service of Autodelta, Alfa Romeos racing department, Chiti builds a car for the 1967 racing season with a two liter eight cylinder mid engine, which receives the internal designation 33. That first season is not successful, but an improved version appears, the 33/2. During the 24 hour race at Daytona in 1968 the 33/2s take first place in the two liter class, hence the addition Daytona. In the 500 Kilometers of Imola Vaccarella and Zeccoli take first overall with a 33/2. Incidentally, Nino Vaccarella is a gentleman driver. In everyday life he is a schoolteacher. The Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 is further developed and in 1969 a three liter version appears, the 33/3. With this type Gijs van Lennep finishes second in the Targa Florio of 1971.
