Baker Electric Coupe

Baker Electric Coupe

This fully electric car was the model for the little car driven by 'Grandma Duck' in the Walt Disney cartoon series 'Donald Duck'.

The beautiful silk and brocade interior upholstery also indicates that the car is aimed at ladies from high society. Because of the often large hats that are worn, the car is built tall. The dashboard is mounted high up, against the roof, and contains no more than a voltmeter and an ammeter. The batteries are located under the front "hood" and in a compartment at the rear; they can be charged by connecting them to the mains electricity supply. The motor itself is located under the bench seat. Steering is still done with a steering tiller, which is already quite old fashioned by the time this car comes onto the market. The Baker is positioned as an "aristocrat of motoring," that does away with "the uncertainties of cars with combustion engines or steam engines."
