Baker Electric Roadster
The fastest available electric car
Elegant, fully electric sports roadster from the American brand Baker, which in the early 20th century was one of the largest suppliers of electric city cars. With this model, Baker tries to make its electric cars resemble competing models with combustion engines. The radiator, however, has no function, and under the “hood” are the batteries. On the floor by the pedals is the dashboard, which consists of a voltmeter and an ammeter. The charger for the batteries can also be seen here. Walter Baker was already involved with electrically powered cars in 1893 and started his own brand in 1899. Although he was initially successful, the popularity of the electric car gradually declined because of rapid developments in combustion engines. The invention of the electric starter motor, for example, made hand-cranking unnecessary. Baker ceased production of electric cars in 1916.
