Beautiful Art Deco streamlined shapes adorn this Lancia Astura, in the 1930s the most luxurious model in the Lancia range. The young designer Battista 'Pinin' Farina is responsible for the design of this 'Tipo Bocca', which is fitted with an 85 hp three liter V8 with an extremely small block angle of 17 degrees. The engine is whisper quiet and the top speed of 130 km/h can be reached in complete comfort. The Astura type, named after a peninsula near the Italian region of Lazio where many Roman villas once stood, is produced from 1931 to 1939. The Mussolini regime chooses the Lancia Astura as the official government vehicle. The car brand Lancia, founded in 1906 by Vincenzo Lancia, is known for being highly innovative technically. The Lancia Lambda from 1922, for example, is the first production car with a self supporting body ('monocoque'), and after the war the brand presents the worlds first production V6 in the Aurelia type, which is also regarded as the first GT (Gran Turismo – a sporty car suitable for long distances). Since 1969 Lancia has been part of the Fiat Group.
