Iso Isetta
The front of this Iso Isetta also serves as the door. It hinges open sideways, while the dashboard, steering wheel and steering column move forward at the same time to make getting in and out easier.
The car is suitable for two occupants and the most popular accessory is a luggage rack that can be mounted on the back, since the luggage space is very limited. The two (!) rear wheels are driven via a four speed gearbox. Isetta means small Iso and refers to the refrigerator factory Iso owned by the Italian Renzo Rivolta. In the late 1940s he changes course and starts designing scooters and cars, including this Isetta. Rivolta enters seven Isettas in the 1954 Mille Miglia road race and wins in the economy class. BMW, which at that time only produces expensive cars, becomes interested and buys the license. Under BMW the Isetta becomes a real success. Until 1962 more than 160,000 are built. In that same year Renzo Rivolta starts a sports car factory and will go on to produce prestigious models such as the Grifo.
