Pininfarina X
The space race of the fifties and sixties is reflected in the design of all kinds of everyday items, including cars.
The Italian designer and coachbuilder Battista Farina, nicknamed Pinin ("the little one"), also follows this trend and builds an experimental car that looks like a spaceship. The car, designated type "X", has aerodynamics that allow a higher top speed and lower fuel consumption. The Pininfarina X has an exceptionally low drag coefficient of 0.23, even by todays standards. The X has an unusual diamond-shaped layout for the four wheels. The single front wheel does the steering, the Fiat 1,089 cc engine at the rear drives the single rear wheel, and the two side wheels provide stability.
