Jaguar C-Type

The Jaguar C-Type (officially Jaguar XK120-C) is a racing car built by Jaguar from 1951 to 1953. The "C" stands for "competition"

It sounds implausible, but despite the victories the car had achieved, Jaguar had trouble selling the last D-types when the factory withdrew from racing in 1956. That is why it was decided to convert the remaining cars into a road-going version, the XKSS. Naturally, the car was modified cosmetically and in terms of comfort, and it also had to comply with the regulations for driving on public roads. The D-types were stripped of the fin at the rear and of the partition between passenger and driver. Added were a different windscreen, side windows, a passenger door, chrome bumpers and a fabric convertible top. A fierce fire in February 1957 reduced part of the Jaguar factory in Coventry to ashes, destroying, among other things, a number of completed and partially completed XKSSs. Partly for that reason, only 16 Jaguar XKSSs ever came onto the market, one of which was owned by Steve McQueen.
