Jaguar XKSS
In total, only 16 Jaguar XKSS cars, a road-going version of the legendary D-type, have ever come onto the market.
It sounds implausible, but despite the victories the car had achieved, Jaguar had trouble selling the last D-types when the factory withdrew from racing in 1956. That is why it was decided to convert the remaining cars into a road-going version, the XKSS. Naturally, the car was modified cosmetically and in terms of comfort, and it also had to comply with the regulations for driving on public roads. The D-types were stripped of the fin at the rear and of the partition between passenger and driver. Added were a different windscreen, side windows, a passenger door, chrome bumpers and a fabric convertible top. In February 1957, a fierce fire reduced part of the Jaguar factory in Coventry to ashes, destroying, among other things, a number of completed and partially completed XKSSs. Partly for that reason, only 16 Jaguar XKSSs in total came onto the market, one of which was owned by Steve McQueen.
