NSU Prinz 4 Sedan

NSU Prinz 4 Saloon

The body design is somewhat reminiscent of that of the American Chevrolet Corvair, albeit in a much smaller version.

The design of the bodywork is somewhat reminiscent of that of the American Chevrolet Corvair, albeit in a much scaled down version. The rounded, somewhat bathtub like shapes give the car a slightly comical look. The NSU Prinz 4 succeeds the actually slightly too small Prinz 30, but still has the same engine, a rear mounted air cooled 30 hp two cylinder of 600 cc, with which the NSU can reach a top speed of around 115 km/h. From 1964 the Prinz 4 can be supplied with disc brakes on the front wheels. Later a sporty looking coupe is also available, the Sportprinz. The convertible version, the Spider, goes down in history as the first production car with a Wankel engine. In 1973 production of the NSU Prinz ends, after almost 600,000 units have been built. NSU is an abbreviation of Neckarsulm, the town in Germany where the factory was located. It is originally a manufacturer of bicycles and motorcycles, but in 1905 it takes up car production. NSU is taken over by Volkswagen in 1969 and then merged with Audi in Ingolstadt.
