Morgan Sports

The three wheeled Morgan is probably the most successful and most famous of all cyclecars.

The three wheeled Morgan is by far the most famous and most successful of all cyclecars. That is mainly thanks to its excellent power to weight ratio, which makes the car popular with more sporty drivers. It is also used in many races, although it sometimes takes enormous driving skill to keep the three wheeler on the right line. The 1.1 liter JAP V twin delivers 11 hp. The drive shaft is mounted in the backbone chassis, which is made of tubes. The engine mounts act as anchor points for the sliding pillar independent front suspension. A sporty touch is the V shaped windscreen. The concept of this three wheeler dates back to 1909 and was devised by engineer H.F.S. Morgan from Great Malvern in England. With financial help from his father he started a car factory that same year. Morgan did not develop his own engines, but used those of other manufacturers; in the case of the three wheeler these were JAP, Matchless and, for the competition models, Blackburne. In 1936 the first four wheeler was built.
