This Porsche, painted in the national racing color orange, was the car of Jonkheer Carel Godin de Beaufort, Lord of Maarn and Maarsbergen.

This Porsche 718, finished in the national racing color orange, was the car of Jonkheer Carel Godin de Beaufort, lord of Maarn and Maarsbergen. He practiced motorsport entirely at his own expense and purely for pleasure, making him one of the last gentleman racers in Dutch motorsport history. In daily life he was a hotelier and lived in one of the towers of Maarsbergen Castle. With the aim of competing in Formula 1, Godin de Beaufort bought two, by then outdated, Porsches in 1962, which had achieved success in previous years in Formula 2 races. These were 718/2 type cars, fitted with 1.5 liter Carrera engines from the Porsche Spyder RSK. In 1961 the regulations had been changed, allowing cars with smaller engines like these to be entered in Formula 1 as well. With the Porsches, Godin de Beaufort drove more than fifty races and managed to score important points in the 1962 and 1963 World Championships. The plan was to replace the cars afterwards with a Brabham Formula 1 racer, but it never came to that: during qualifying for the 1964 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, Carel Godin de Beaufort crashed his Porsche and died a day later from his injuries, at only 30 years of age.
