Wickerwork as decoration on coach bodies is very popular in the period around the First World War, especially among French coachbuilders. It is very labor intensive and therefore not cheap to make, which is why it is found almost exclusively on the more expensive models, such as this 22/24CV from Renault. The Parisian coachbuilder Muhlbacher is held in high esteem in those days. This is one of his creations, a so called Town Car, with the driver sitting in the open air and the passengers in an enclosed compartment. Communication with the driver takes place via the horn on the right hand side. Large Renaults such as the 22CV and the 40CV are sold only as rolling chassis, with the choice of bodywork left to the customer. The comfortable 22CV is fitted with a four cylinder engine with a capacity of five liters.
