In the 1960s this Spyker was discovered in France. It is the only surviving Spyker with a landaulet body. On this type, the rear section of the top can be folded down. Just like one of the Double Phaetons on display in the museum, it is a 15/22 HP model with a low pressure lubrication system for the engine, which prevents the car from emitting blue smoke. The year 1907 is not only a bad business year for the Spyker factory. The ferry "Berlin", on its way to England, sinks off the coast near Hoek van Holland. Among those on board are Hendrik Jan Spijker and the brand’s representative for England, Frederick Elsworth. Both lose their lives. Jacobus Spijker then decides to withdraw from the company. At the start of the year business still seems to be going well, but sales decline. In addition, a large order from the French importer is cancelled. In the end Spyker goes bankrupt, but under a new management it manages to make a fresh start. The only bright spot for Spyker in 1907, albeit indirectly, is that a Spyker with the Frenchman Charles Godard at the wheel finishes second in the marathon run Peking Paris.
