From childhood dream to lifelong passion: Ig and his green Djet
January 13, 2025
For Ig de Bakker it all began in 1965, when he saw a dark green Matra Bonnet Djet in the magazine PEP. He fell in love on the spot. As a teenager he cycled from the Westland to The Hague to admire just such a Djet in real life. By helping with washing it he was sometimes even allowed to ride along for a lap – a dream for any car enthusiast.
The love for the French sports car has never faded. For no less than 20 years, Ig owned a Djet himself. The car from his teenage years? It still exists and now belongs to a good friend.
Ig, also known as "Monsieur Matra", has become an expert in classic sports and racing cars from smaller brands. Since 2021, he has been sharing his knowledge and passion as a volunteer and quadrilingual guide at the Louwman Museum. A childhood dream that grew into an inspiring life story.
