Special Guests: Classic BMW roadsters 507 and Z8
Throughout the month of May, the Louwman Museum is showcasing two strikingly styled BMW roadsters: the classic 507 and the modern classic Z8. Despite an age difference of no less than four decades, the museum highlights the similarities between these roadsters.
For the classic of the future, the present often reaches back to the past. This was also true of BMWs design department in the mid nineteen nineties. Under the leadership of head designer Henrik Fisker, his team was given the task of paying homage to the legendary 507 from the nineteen fifties, without turning it into a remake of the beautiful roadster. Fisker was allergic to retro design. And so a roadster with an optional hardtop was created, featuring a long hood line, two seats positioned against the driven rear axle, and numerous classic design details that so strongly characterize the historic 507. It did not stop there, because the bloodline of the now quarter century old BMW Z8 runs even deeper. Still, what stands before you is not a copy of the now almost seventy year old automobile.
Come admire the two beauties at the Louwman Museum this month and see how history keeps shaping the future. Plus,
discover who was the most famous owner of a 507 ever and who had the honor of driving the Z8 even before production started. Our enthusiastic guides will be happy to tell you about the special features of the silver roadsters.
The Louwman Museum is located at Leidsestraatweg 57 in The Hague and is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
