Unique Maserati MC12 Corsa temporarily on display at the Louwman Museum

April 7, 2025

This April, the Louwman Museum is showcasing a rare highlight from modern motorsport history: the Maserati MC12 Corsa. A thoroughbred track monster of which only twelve examples were ever built — and this particular one has even been made street legal. A unique opportunity to admire this impressive supercar up close.

After several decades of absence, Maserati returned to the track in 2004 with the MC12, developed specifically for the international GT1 championship. The car proved to be a bullseye: Maserati won convincingly in both 2004 and 2005. As a tribute to these successes, Maserati developed the MC12 Corsa, a non-competitive track version for customers and enthusiasts.

The name MC12 stands for Maserati Corse and the number of cylinders: twelve. The Corsa shares its monocoque with the Ferrari Enzo, but distinguishes itself with conventional doors and a removable roof panel. Under the hood lies a tuned V12, good for no less than 755 hp. This makes the 5.14 meter long and 2.10 meter wide supercar an impressive sight and a brutal powerhouse.

The design is by Frank Stephenson, who was also responsible for, among others, the MINI (2001) and Fiat 500 (2008). Although the Corsa was not originally intended for use on public roads, this particular example has been converted into a street legal version. In theory you could take it through the McDrive, although the small side windows and the entry are not exactly practical.

The Maserati MC12 exists in three variants:

- GT1: The original race car of which twelve examples were built (plus one extra in 2013 from spare parts).

- Stradale: The street version for homologation, produced in a run of fifty units.

- Corsa: The track version for customers, limited to twelve cars.

So the MC12 Corsa is not only rare, but also tells a remarkable story of Italian passion, engineering and design.

Visit the Louwman Museum and admire this rare world class Maserati.
