Meet volunteer Henk
October 3, 2024
Meet volunteer Henk van der Koolwijk and his 1951 Fiat Topolino. This is the last model with physical semaphore indicators, but for safety reasons Henk has installed flashing indicators himself. Twenty five years ago he completely restored the Topolino with his own hands. Because of the double bearing crankshaft, Henk has to tinker with it regularly, but that is no problem for him. His career started at the Louwman Group and continued as a roadside assistance patrolman with the ANWB. After his retirement, Henk returned as a guide at the Louwman Museum. According to Henk, that idea of going back also applies to the history of the automobile: electric and hybrid cars already existed 125 years ago. A fun fact about the Topolino: astronaut Wubbo Ockels drove a Topolino when he applied to become an astronaut. He was hired because of his car, because it meant you had to be good at improvising.
